Albion complete deadline day deals
Camp, Sessegnon and Anichebe sign late on
Albion added much needed fire power on transfer deadline day after twice smashing their record transfer fee on Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe.
The Baggies signed Benin international Sessegnon for a fee of around £5.5m on a three-year deal before adding Everton forward Victor Anichebe for a deal which could rise to £6m.
Earlier in the afternoon, Lee Camp strengthened Albion’s goalkeeping ranks after he signed a monthly rolling deal to cover for the injured Ben Foster.
The former Sunderland forward Sessegnon, who will wear the No.29 shirt at The Hawthorns, signed for the Black Cats back in January 2011 from Paris Saint Germaine for a fee of £6m. He scored 17 times in 85 appearances on Wearside before falling out of favour with Paolo Di Canio this season.
Nigerian international Anichebe has scored 34 goals in 195 league appearances, including 57 as a substitute, during eight injury hit seasons at Goodison Park.
The Baggies almost added fans’ favourite Romelu Lukaku on another season-long loan deal, only for Everton to pip Albion in the final hour of the transfer window.
Want-away striker Peter Odemwingie finally sealed a move away from The Hawthorns after completing a £2.5m deal to Cardiff City. Shane Long almost made an unexpected exit in a £5m deal to Hull City, but the deal fell through late on after the failed pursuit for Lukaku. Gabriel Tamas was also released.
