Zola - We are turning corner

Gianfranco Zola believes West Ham will soon start to climb the table after an encouraging performance against Stoke. The Hammers lost 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday to remain in deep trouble with just five points from their opening eight games. However, Zola feels the defeat was harsh on his side as they had been on top when James Beattie netted the winning goal after 69 minutes. "We didn't deserve to lose the game. The team performance was very encouraging and I'm looking at that," said the Italian. "It is frustrating for us to come out of it with no points. Up to when they scored the second goal it looked like we were going to win the game." West Ham are currently languishing in the bottom three but Zola thinks a little bit of luck is all that might be needed to revive their fortunes. He added: "It is tough for me to have a go at the players because I thought they gave everything and that is encouraging because if we keep playing like that it is going to be a different story soon. "It is very much similar to the situation we had last year. We are playing well but we are paying a high price for every mistake we make. "Obviously it is not going our way but the team is determined to improve and the way they played it makes me think [turning] the corner is very close."
