Zola: My future will be sorted in summer
Gianfranco Zola has admitted that his chances of remaining in the West Ham hotseat depend solely on keeping the Hammers in the Premier League.[LNB] The Hammers boss believes he has done a good job in managing the club through one of the most turbulent periods in their history.[LNB]But predecessors Alan Pardew and Alan Curbishley both failed to survive the soap opera that has swirled around Upton Park in recent years and speculation is rife that Zola is also on his way out.[LNB]Mark Hughes and Steve McClaren have both been linked with the role but West Ham insist no decision on the situation will be made until the summer, when their fate is known.[LNB]West Ham could effectively seal their top-flight status this weekend. A victory over Wigan on Saturday, combined with defeats for Hull and Burnley, would leave the Hammers six points above the drop zone with two games remaining.[LNB]Zola would be proud of the achievement given the turmoil the club have faced this year - key players like James Collins were sold to raise cash and West Ham almost went into administration.[LNB]The Italian has often said he has gained five years' worth of experience in one season - and he would relish the chance to build on that next term.[LNB]But Zola conceded: "The future depends on what happens right now, so my mind is totally on that.[LNB]"We're going to talk (with the owners) about it at the end of the season. The important thing is to get the situation sorted, then we're going to talk about it."[LNB]When new owners David Gold and David Sullivan took over they discovered debts of £105million - the same level of liabilities that sent Portsmouth into administration.[LNB]West Ham's financial situation forced them to cash in on key players like Collins last September. Had Gold and Sullivan not taken over in January then England trio Robert Green, Carlton Cole and Matthew Upson may also have been sold.[LNB]"Considering the problems we had since I came over everybody has dealt with the situation well," said Zola.[LNB]"If you think about it, we were one of the richest teams and became one of the poorest. We had to go through a lot of problems. We had to sell a lot of players and they were important ones for the team.[LNB]"We have managed the situation very well and I'm sorry Portsmouth couldn't do the same.[LNB]"Considering the circumstances last year we have done a good job. I don't want to say it was me because the job has been done by a group of people and I shared the good things that we did last year with all of my staff.[LNB]"This year we haven't been able to do the same but, if we do well in the last three games, considering everything we have been through it is a decent job."[LNB]Zola has not seen eye to eye with the new owners. He was angered by Sullivan's decision to lambast the squad as "pathetic" and "shambolic" after their defeat to Wolves last month.[LNB]West Ham head into the clash with Wigan on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool but he is confident his side have the resolve to bounce back and take a giant stride towards top-flight survival.[LNB]The Hammers will be boosted by the return of dynamic midfielder Scott Parker, who missed the last two games through suspension and is set to replace Junior Stanislas.[LNB]"We know we need a reaction," said Zola.[LNB]"It's a massive game for us. We also know that the last game wasn't very good and the players are determined to bounce back.[LNB]"I am confident we will see a reaction. We have had so many problems this year and we are determined to give those problems a kick and this is an incredible opportunity to do that.[LNB]"We don't know what's going to happen (at Hull) but I think it is important we focus on winning our game. That is the start.[LNB]"Then, if some results go our way, it's even better - but it all starts with winning our game. I'm sure the players will react well.[LNB]"Scott is back and it's good. For this team, he is a reference point and when he is on the pitch he makes a big difference for us.[LNB]"It will be big to have him back."
