West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has spoken of his desire to get the Hammers into Europe.[LNB] The Hammers are well placed for a push for European qualification via the league, sitting in eighth in the table.[LNB]Zola won the Uefa Cup in 1995 as a player with Parma and would now love to have a tilt at it as a boss.[LNB]And if the Hammers do qualify, then Zola insists the club will take it more seriously than some other English sides, such as Tottenham and Portsmouth, who have rested key players in this season's competition.[LNB]InconvenienceZola, whose side take on Bolton at the Reebok on Saturday, told The Sun: "I don't understand how Europe can be an inconvenience. [LNB]"Teams put so much effort into qualifying and then, when they get there, they put out weakened teams. It doesn't make sense. [LNB]"The Uefa Cup doesn't have the same prestige as when I won it with Parma in 1995 but it's a European competition and I'd love to be involved with West Ham." [LNB]While the Uefa Cup is not as strong a competition to win as it was back in 1995, Zola believes taking part will make his team better.[LNB]Nice problemHe said: "Being in the Uefa Cup would be a nice problem to have.[LNB]"If teams don't like the competition, then maybe we should change the format, but for me it a good tournament to be involved in because it can make your team better."[LNB]He added: "It's not just the silverware you can get but the chance to give your players some European experience.[LNB]"I'm not the kind of manager to stop the players from thinking about it. It's good to have ambitious targets and work hard to achieve them.[LNB]"If they want to be ambitious then I am very happy if they work hard to make their ambitions happy."[LNB]
