Zola - Form will aid investment

Gianfranco Zola believes West Ham's off-the-field problems can be eased if the team can remedy their form on the field. The Hammers have suffered a miserable start to the campaign, with only one win from their eight games so far in the Premier League. The form is a far cry from that of last term when Zola guided West Ham to a ninth-place finish in his debut season. On top of their poor start, the club's future remains uncertain as Straumur, the stricken Icelandic bank in ownership, are desperately seeking to find new investment. Zola's side host Arsenal at Upton Park this weekend and the Italian is hoping to see some attractive football with a result to match in a step towards saving the team's season, and the club's future. "I would love to see more tranquillity around this club," Zola said. "We dealt very well with the problems last year because we focused on the pitch and made things much easier for everybody. "If you make things happen on the football pitch then everything becomes easier. If we play like we can maybe a billionaire can come and buy us, anything can happen. It is all about playing football well and getting points." With debts of at least £40million, the owners are seeking £100m for full ownership of the East London outfit. Should the owners fail to find investment, Zola may be forced to sell more of his key players after already losing Craig Bellamy and James Collins to Manchester City and Aston Villa, respectively. Zola said: "There are clubs in the league which have much bigger debts than us. As far as I know the owners of the club believe in what we are doing. "We want to keep the best players and I know exactly what I have to do and I'm doing my best." Zola faces the toughest test of his short managerial career in turning the club's fortunes around but he insists he is ready for the challenge at hand. He said: "I don't give up. As a manager I know I will get better if I work on this situation and I am determined to change it. I can deal with the frustration. "There's no doubt it has been a challenge for me. I am in situations I have never faced in my life and that I don't like very much. But it is a test and, trust me, the determination is there to succeed."
