Zola admits Gudjohnsen talks

West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola has revealed he is working on a deal to bring Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen to Upton Park. Zola has made no secret of the fact that he is hoping to sign at least one striker before the end of the transfer window, but has so far been reluctant to reveal the names on his wish list. But now the 43-year-old has admitted that he is currently in negotiations with his former Chelsea team-mate. Although Gudjohnsen rarely features in Pep Guardiola's starting line-up, Zola says he has had trouble tempting the Icelander away from the glamour of the Camp Nou. "He's playing for Barcelona, he's playing in the UEFA Champions League - although he is not playing regularly, he is there," the Hammers manager told the Daily Mirror. "The alternative is to come and play for West Ham - which is obviously a smaller club. I can understand his concern. He is human. "We are a good club with a good future but maybe he doesn't see that. We will see what happens." It is also reported that Zola is attempting to secure a loan deal for veteran Italian striker Luca Toni.
