The 26-year-old centre back and his mother both received stab wounds following an attack at their at home in Bedford late on Friday evening, the Premier League club said in a statement on their website. Bedfordshire Police have confirmed they have arrested a 25-year-old man in Derby on suspicion of attempted murder by detectives investigating the stabbing of Davenport whose injuries have been described by doctors as "serious". "The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff," the club said, adding that "due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time." Davenport signed a three-and-a-half contract at West Ham in January 2006. He joined Watford on loan in 2008 but suffered a fractured bone in his neck following a collision with teammate Darius Henderson on his debut against Charlton. After a long spell on the sidelines, Davenport returned to action at the start of last season and scored his first goal for West Ham against Blackburn on August 30, 2008. Davenport finished the season on loan at Sunderland after falling out of favour with manager Gianfranco Zola.
