West Ham co-chairman David Gold was caught in a case of mistaken identity when welcoming the club’s new signing Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria on his personal Twitter account.

So David knows it’s Pedro Obiang that his club’s signed. Look – he says his name twice! Shame that’s a picture of Juventus centre-back Angelo Ogbonna…

The facepalm-inducing tweet was soon deleted and replaced by a more accurate photograph (i.e. one actually featuring his club’s new signing). And David was taking no chances this time – look at all those West Ham props and backdrops he’s thrown in for good measure!

But it didn’t save him from an online ribbing by Irons fans.

“DG” ignored the whole palava, sending another tweet to show how he and Pedro had already become bosom buds since the Spaniard was signed.

Obiang, a Spain Under-21 midfielder, is the first player to join West Ham since the announcement of Slaven Bilic as the east London club’s new manager on Tuesday.
