West Ham can finally start dreaming of Europe

With the business end of the season now well and truly in motion West Ham and their brand of ‘19th Century’ football is finally starting to see some reward as they climb from bottom three to top 10 and with Newcastle in freefall after the sale of the player that makes them winners rather than losers what are the chances for this side that rocked the Chelsea applecart in the games ahead?

Joking aside and looking at the current form guide the Hammers are only bettered in the last 6 games by Liverpool and Chelsea with 13 points against 14 points. Newcastle the team above them are 19th on form having gained only 4 points in their last six. Southampton the team in 7th are doing somewhat better with 12 points from six games with Man Utd 11th on form with 7 points from six games.

I expect the 40 point safety line will probably be in effect this season, a line that Newcastle and Southampton would cross but it is conceivable that on current form Newcastle will find themselves in the bottom half and maybe after everything that has gone before including dubious red cards that West Ham can look forward to another year in the Premier League whilst the clock ticks to them taking up residency at what will become one of the top grounds in the country.

Whilst it would be fanciful to expect West Ham to climb further up the league it does show how incredibly close all of the bottom ten teams are to danger and how quickly this relegation battle can be turned on its head. Only eight points separate Fulham who currently sit at the foot of the league to West Ham in tenth. We can expect plenty more twists I am sure in this fiercely competitive relegation battle.
