West Ham boss Avram Grant claims England's poor World Cup hurt Robert Green and Matthew Upson

West Ham boss Avram Grant believes England's woeful World Cup was the reason  behind Robert Green and Matthew Upson's poor starts to this season.[LNB]But the Israeli believes goalkeeper Green and defender Upson have now got over the 'trauma' of the Three Lions' disappointing early exit in South Africa and are now fully focused on playing for the Hammers.[LNB]Green came under fire for his horrendous mistake which led to the USA scoring in the 1-1 draw against England in the opening World Cup game. [LNB] Clanger: Green fumbles the ball into the net in England's first game against the US[LNB]Upson too was criticised, along with several other players, for his poor performance in the 4-1 defeat to Germany, especially the ease of which he was beaten by Miroslav Klose for Germany's first goal.[LNB]Grant told The Daily Mirror said: 'All the players from the English squad at the World Cup were left in some kind of trauma after the summer.[LNB]'Sometimes we forget that we are talking about 20-year-olds, even­30-year-olds. They might think they are experienced in life, but theydo not have so much ­experience.[LNB]'All the country believed that England were going to do well, maybe win the World Cup, and that their team was the best.[LNB] Criticised: Upson was beaten by the speed of Miroslav Klose for a Germany goal [LNB]'But there was huge ­disappointment because they didn't perform well or achieve their targets, and then lost to Germany.[LNB]'There was a lot of emotion there. I didn't see it in training with Rob and Matthew, but I didn't know then how they worked.[LNB]'They didn't start the season well, but now they are better.
