Vaz Te to the rescue for Hammers

West Ham needed a late Ricardo Vaz Te goal to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw with Watford as they blew their chance to go top of the npower Championship.

The Hammers, needing a win to leapfrog Southampton at the summit, created a host of chances only to fall behind to a second-half sucker-punch from Watford teenager Sean Murray.

Substitute Vaz Te struck with three minutes of normal time to play and West Ham laid siege on the Watford goal throughout nine minutes of stoppage time following a nasty injury to Dale Bennett.

Sam Vokes came off the bench to net a vital equaliser as Brighton twice came from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Cardiff.

Vokes tapped home from Ashley Barnes' pass in the 89th minute to salvage a share of the spoils for the Seagulls after Peter Whittingham's fine strike looked to have won the game for the visiting Bluebirds.

Earlier, Barnes had levelled matters for Gus Poyet's hosts following Joe Mason's opener for the visitors, but a point does neither side much good in their bids for a place in the npower Championship play-offs.

Brighton dominated the first period but fell behind 11 minutes after the break when Mason slotted home from close range after the home defence failed to clear a Don Cowie cross.

Barnes equalised after 72 minutes but Cardiff struck back almost instantly, as Whittingham found the top left-hand corner of the net from the edge of the box.

However, with time ticking down, Vokes was on hand to tuck home after a good move involving Liam Bridcutt and Barnes.
