Stabbed West Ham player charged with assault

Police have charged West Ham United defender Calum Davenport with assaulting a woman shortly before he was stabbed at his mother's home in August, they said on Wednesday.[LNB] Davenport, 26, a former England Under-21 international, was stabbed in both legs during the attack at the house in Bedford, 50 miles north of London, and had emergency surgery for his injuries.[LNB] "Professional footballer Calum Davenport has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm on a woman following an incident in Bedford on August 22," Bedfordshire police said in a statement.[LNB] The Premier League player has been released on police bail and is due to appear at Bedford Magistrates Court on November 10.[LNB] Police said the alleged incident had occurred on the same night Davenport was injured but gave no further details.[LNB] A 25-year-old man has already been charged with causing Davenport grievous bodily harm with intent and also causing actual bodily harm to the footballer's 49-year-old mother.[LNB] Davenport began very light rehabilitation work, including some cycling and swimming, at West Ham's training ground earlier this month following his release from hospital.[LNB] "Calum's doing well..."
