Slaven Bilic is skating on thin ice with hot blades as woeful West Ham crumble again

Life just gets better and better for Charlie Austin and Southampton - but continues to go from bad to worse for the hapless Hammers.

Born-again striker Austin put Saints in the driving seat with a deft flick of the foot five minutes before the break, his fifth goal in four games.

And the former QPR man had a hand in the second, scored by Dusan Tadic just after the hour mark with the West Ham defence all at sea once more.

Apart from Chelsea's defensive debacle at the Emirates yesterday, it's hard to think of a more desperate display by a flaky rearguard.

To be fair to West Ham, they did make a better first of things after the turn-around and Dimitri Payet was always a threat but they were shocking at the back.

And Southampton took full advantage as Tadic made the most of a sumptuous through ball to walk the ball into an empty net.

To rub salt into West Ham wounds, James Ward-Prowse made it 3-0 in stoppage time - and surely it's inquest time for Hammers' chiefs.

Slaven Bilic, one of the Premier League's top defenders back in the day, could not believe his eyes as his side crashed to another defeat at the London Stadium. Oh, for a return to the Boleyn.

West Ham had 13 shots compared to Southampton's 15 but the tell-tale stats were that the Hammers had one on target whilst the Saints had eight.

Two of them found their way bast Adrian who continues to be left cruelly exposed by a back line as soft as a raspberry fool. And nowhere near as tasty.

That's four wins on the bounce in all competitions for Claude Puel's fast-improving side who are steadily climbing the table, as well as making cup progress at home and abroad.

Nothing of the sort for West Ham who remain entrapped in the bottom three after their fourth successive league drubbing - conceding 14 goals in the process.

The dream move to the Olympic Stadium has turned into a nightmare - and Bilic is skating on thin ice with extremely warm blades.
