Piquionne picks the right time to shine
West Ham beat Tottenham 1-0 thanks to Frederic Piquionne's goal which left Spurs boss Harry Redknapp suffering his first defeat against his former club as a manager.
The Hammers might have taken the lead inside the first minute when Victor Obinna dragged a shot wide, but that set the tone for a match which swung end to end.
Kieron Dyer and Manuel da Costa also went close before the Hammers received their reward after 29 minutes. Mark Noble's corner found Piquionne who rose highest to send a glancing header into the net.
But if the Hammers attacking play was impressive then it would have counted for nothing without Robert Green. He made a string of saves as he continued his rehabilitation following his World Cup howler for England, including one from Luka Modric in the first half which was a candidate for save of the season.
Carlton Cole came on for the limping Piquionne but it was West Ham who should have extended their lead when Obinna got the better of the Spurs defence and fired in a left-foot shot which was brilliantly saved by Carlo Cudicini.
Redknapp threw on Robbie Keane in a bid to supply more firepower but Keane could only shoot straight at Green when his clearest chance presented itself.
