West Ham midfielder Scott Parker is close to signing a new five-year contract.

The 29-year-old, West Ham's player of the year last season, has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Tottenham over the summer but is set to commit his future to the Upton Park club.

"As I understand it the club wants Scott to stay and have given him a long contract," said Hammers boss Avram Grant. "It's good for the club and good for Scott. He's very important to this club and I hope it will be done."

Grant has brought in five new players so far this summer but has failed in his bid to land Miralem Sulejmani after the Ajax midfielder failed to obtain a work permit.

"We didn't succeed in the deal and we are looking forward - I can't look back on things I can't change," added Grant.

The Hammers are understood to be close to agreeing a deal for Manchester City striker Felipe Caicedo.
