Paolo Di Canio linked with Swindon Town

SharePaolo di Canio has emerged as a surprise contender for the Swindon Town job as the former West Ham star seeks a path into management.[LNB]The Italian has always maintained that he dreams of taking over the hot seat at Upton Park but could be set to learn the ropes in the lower leagues.[LNB]Paul Hart recently left Swindon after he was unable to save them from relegation to League 2.[LNB] Instant hero: Paulo di Canio quickly became a fans favourite at West Ham[LNB]According to The Mirror, Di Canio will have talks with Robins' chairman Jeremy Wray this week after applying for the vacant post at the County Ground.[LNB]Bookmakers Victor Chandler had to suspend bets at the weekend after a flood of money for the Italian brought him into the 3/1 favourite.[LNB]If he is in the frame, it would represent a swift turnaround after Di Canio admitted he turned down the chance to begin his career down the football ladder.[LNB]Always in my heart: Di Canio says an emotional farewell after his final home game for West Ham[LNB]'There was a situation, but I don't like to say the name of the club, not a big club,' he said at the time.[LNB]'Of course it was a good situation for me and it made me feel positive. It was lower division not Championship or Premier League - it was League One. [LNB]'It was nothing more than a conversation they tried to contact me and Igave my point of view on how to handle the situation of the team, but Iprefer to wait'[LNB]Di Canio left West Ham in 2003 and retired from playing in 2008, at which time he expressed his desire to return to the East London club.[LNB]'My dream would be to manage in the Premier League becauseEnglish football is the best in the world and my dream inparticular would be to manage at West Ham - that would beperfect,' he said.[LNB]'I spent four seasons there and I would love to go back and winsomething with them.
