McCarthy prepared for final day drama as relegation dogfight goes to the wire
Mick McCarthy expects Wolves' battle for Barclays Premier League survival to go down to the final day of the season.[LNB]Wolves moved out of the bottom three after Saturday's 4-0 home victory over Blackpool and McCarthy believes Wolves have a better squad than last season when they finished 15th on their return to the top flight.[LNB]But McCarthy is braced for the fight to stay up to go through to May given the series of unexpected results this season and with so many teams divided by only a handful of points.[LNB] Right direction: Wolves climbed out of the relegation zone after thumping Blackpool[LNB]McCarthy said: 'I still think we will get out of it, I still think we will get enough points.[LNB]'I do think we have got a strong squad. I think we're a better team than last season - but the Premier League is stronger.[LNB]Brothers in arms: McCarthy (left) and Ian Holloway will be looking to secure Premier League safety[LNB]'It's been a strange season because there have been good results for the lower teams against the top teams.[LNB]'Looking at the league at the moment, I think there is no doubt it will go right to the last game of the season.[LNB]'I would hope that is going to be the case because I can't imagine us getting out of it in the next five games.[LNB]'It is going to take all the 10 games - and it's the same with all the teams.'[LNB]McCarthy added: 'There is a suggestion it will take more points than in recent years to stay up.[LNB]'I think it probably will, whatever that total is, I don't know.[LNB]'I said 40 points would stay up. I said that all along. Can we get there? I don't know. It might be less than that.[LNB]'I think you just keep plugging away and try and get as many points as it will take.[LNB]'It was the same last season.
