Mancini looks set to snub a move to West Ham and fight for his place at Inter Milan if he can convince boss Jose Mourinho to give him the chance.
The Brazilian, 29, has held talks with the Hammers as Mourinho is said to be keen to offload the player with a loan move to Upton Park a real possibility.
West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola is still keen on signing former Chelsea team-mate Eidur Gudjohnsen.
The Hammers go into Saturday's Bobby Moore Cup game against Napoli with Carlton Cole the only fit and experienced striker.
