Latics looking good for Gomez
Jordi Gomez believes Wigan's new-look side are heading in the right direction after they arrested a sequence of four consecutive defeats with victory over West Ham on Saturday.
Gomez followed manager Roberto Martinez from Swansea to Wigan this summer and things got under way with a bang as the Latics opened their Barclays Premier League campaign with an impressive 2-0 win at Aston Villa.
Three league defeats and a humiliating 4-1 loss to Blackpool in the Carling Cup followed, but things got back on track with the 1-0 win over the Hammers and Gomez - one of a host of new faces to arrive at the DW Stadium - believes the group is beginning to work well together.
"I know I have to keep working hard to earn my place in the team and I just want to keep enjoying my football," Gomez told the club`s official website. "I'm playing in the role that I feel I'm strongest at and teaming up well with the players around me.
"We have a great team with great players and it's difficult to get into the starting XI. Everyone knows they have to work hard to earn a place and that gives us some positive competition in the squad.
"Of course things take time when you have a new group of players, but step-by-step we're working towards reaching our full potential."
