Lack of goals threaten West Ham United's European dream

With Craig Bellamy sold to Manchester City, in January, Dean Ashton ruled out for most of the season and Carlton Cole still absent, David Di Michele and Diego Tristan have had to lead the line, but with little luck. West Ham have scored two goals in five games and Zola said: "That's probably been the weakest link. We create many chances but we don't score as many as we create." Cole could return for next weekend's trip to Everton after missing eight games, the first two through suspension and the rest with a groin problem. And Zola could also consider recalling Savio Nsereko, with the manager defending his decision not to include him in Saturday's one-sided 3-0 defeat by Liverpool. "He didn't train all last week. Also, I made a decision that when the game was nearly finished, I wanted to give a young player the chance to play in the first team. Savio is still a player that we trust and need and I am sure he will make an impact here." Zola also defended Di Michele, who was booed off at Upton Park, adding: "What can I say? Di Michele is one our key players. Maybe he doesn't score many goals but he makes the team play very well. I will be supporting him all the time because he has been a very important player for us, especially when we lost Scott Parker. He was the one helping the manoeuvres of the team."
