Knife victim Davenport eyes road to recovery after thanking well-wishers

Stab victim Calum Davenport has paid tribute to blood donors after the hospitalised West Ham defender revealed they probably saved his life following a horrific knife attack last month.[LNB]The former England Under-21 international lost half his blood when he was allegedly attacked by his pregnant sister's boyfriend on August 22 and was initially confined to intensive care at Bedford Hospital.[LNB]Heartfelt thanks: Knife victim Calum Davenport offered his appreciation to all of his well-wishers[LNB]After undergoing surgery on both of his legs, doubts remain over whether the 26-year-old will ever play professional football again but Davenport insists he is positive after issuing a 'heartfelt' thanks to all of his well-wishers.[LNB]'I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support over the last few weeks,' he said, speaking for the first time since the ordeal.[LNB]'It has been a tough time and the support has been very much appreciated,' he added.[LNB]'I would also like to thank anyone who has ever donated blood, as you probably saved my life. I would like to encourage everyone to give blood. [LNB]'Thanks to the club, my team-mates and fans, to the club doctors and the amazing staff at Bedford Hospital who have looked after me so well' [LNB]The recuperating star is expected to be discharged from hospital next week before embarking on a long road of rehabilitation but insisted he is upbeat over his recovery.[LNB]'At the moment I am still in hospital and have quite a long way to go on the road to recovery but I am feeling positive,' he said.
