Huth handed three-game ban

Stoke defender Robert Huth has been handed a three-match ban by the Football Association following his clash with Matthew Upson. Huth caught the West Ham defender in the face with his swinging arm during Saturday's 2-1 victory for the Potters at the Britannia Stadium. The incident was missed by referee Martin Atkinson at the time but highlighted by television replays with the FA charging the German with violent conduct. Huth admitted the charge and has now been banned for three games, ruling him out of Saturday's trip to Tottenham, plus the Carling Cup fourth round clash at Portsmouth and the home Premier League meeting with Wolves. A statement on the FA's official website read: "At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Stoke City defender Robert Huth was given a three-match suspension to be served with immediate effect. "Huth admitted a charge of violent conduct relating to an incident involving West Ham defender Matthew Upson during the Premier League match on Saturday, 17 October." The Potters have taken their own disciplinary action against the former Middlesbrough man. Stoke manager Tony Pulis said: "We have spoken to Robert and he knows what we feel. His reaction was poor and it could have cost us the game. "Upson wasn't even looking at the ball as he blocked Robert off, but players have to retain their discipline in those situations, whatever the provocation is." Andy Wilkinson, who was axed after Huth's £5million arrival from Middlesbrough in August, is primed to deputise at right-back at Tottenham on Saturday. But Pulis added: "Robert has been the most consistent player we've had at the club this season. He's one of the rocks our defence has been built on and he's been exceptional away from home. "He's very disappointed he's going to miss games, but he's a good kid and a great professional who takes on board what we say to him. He will learn and bounce back from this."
