Hull City are ready to boost their firepower by signing Aston Villa's out of favour striker Marlon Harewood.

On the move: Harewood is set to leave Villa Park with Hull and Boro interested

The Tigers are hopeful of finalising the £6 million transfer of Fraizer Campbell from Manchester United next week.

And manager Phil Brown also has Harewood in his sights. Initial talks have already taken place for the 29-year-old who would cost around £1.5 million.

Harewood wants to quit Villa after making just one Barclays Premier League start since his £4 million move from West Ham in July 2007.

Hull tried to sign Harewood during the January transfer window but with Villa going well in the league and still in the UEFA Cup, the Midlanders would not release the striker.

Harewood played five games on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers as they clinched promotion from the Championship .

On the up: A move to Aston Villa could ease the pain of relegation for Boro defender David Wheater with Harewood possibly going the other way

Now he is set to revive his career leaving Villa Park with a move to Hull on the cards.

But Villa may consider using the former Nottingham Forest man as a £2 million bargaining tool in their bid to sign defender David Wheater from Middlesbrough.
