HATCHET MAN: Troubled Gudmundsson left in the cold as Icelandic creditors prepare for Hammers takeov

First the good news for West Ham fans: the club is finally about to be taken over. Now for the bad news: they are being transferred from an owner whose interests have been crippled by the Icelandic economic crisis to a bank which is 'effectively insolvent' according to the FSA. The unpopular regime of former chairman Terry Brown, who sold the club to the Icelanders, doesn't look so bad now after all. After being told earlier in the season that the club was'firewalled' from the Icelandic economic collapse which was threateningto engulf owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson, fans will apparently now haveto wait to see how Straumur's creditors deal with the club. Reports suggest they are prepared to hang on for a sale, but it ishardly likely we will see them splash out on players in the summer. There can be little sympathy though. After ridiculous early spendingon players and wages and the disgraceful conduct in the Carlos Tevezsaga, maybe they are getting what they deserve.
