Hammers snub Upson offer

Sky Sports News understands that West Ham have turned down a bid from Fiorentina for Matthew Upson. The Serie A giants have been strongly linked with the centre-half of late and are believed to have made their move on Italian transfer deadline day. Much has been made of the financial turmoil at Upton Park in recent times, leading to speculation of imminent exits. Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola insists he is under no pressure to sell, though, and has made it clear that he will not be parting with key men. That includes England international Upson, who has hinted this summer that he would be prepared to take on a fresh challenge should the opportunity arise. A move to Fiorentina would offer him the chance to compete in the UEFA Champions League, but West Ham have snubbed the Viola's initial advance.
