Hammers land Obinna on loan

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Victor Obinna on a season-long loan deal from Inter Milan.[LNB] Obinna, 23, joins from European champions Inter Milan having spent last season on loan with Spanish side Malaga.[LNB]He becomes the club's sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Thomas Hitzlsperger, Tal Ben Haim, Winston Reid, Pablo Barrera and Frederic Piquionne.[LNB]The Hammers' deal for Obinna includes an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.[LNB]Obinna made two appearances for Nigeria in the 2010 World Cup, where the Super Eagles failed to get out of a group containing Argentina, South Korea and Greece.[LNB]He joined Inter in the summer of 2008 from another Italian club, Chievo.[LNB]West Ham manager Avram Grant said: "Victor Obinna has signed for us and we are very happy. He's a very good player for us and can play in many forward positions.[LNB]"He is also part of our plans for the next season to take players who can develop. He has signed on loan with an option to buy.[LNB]"We came here and wanted to change things and make things better. We have a problem with the financial situation, as everybody knows, the team is in a lot of debt.[LNB]"This is the reason we are taking players on loan with options - first because it is cheaper and second because it will be good for us in the future. We can see that. We are looking for players."[LNB]West Ham are waiting in hope that Obinna receives the necessary clearance in order to be considered for Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United.[LNB]Obinna is not expected to be the last of West Ham's summer recruits, with Grant desperate to plug the gaping hole at right-back.[LNB]Reid, the New Zealand international, is the only defensive signing Grant has made this summer - and West Ham have conceded six in their first two league games.[LNB]But he insisted the struggling Hammers cannot afford to enter Saturday's clash at Old Trafford with any form of apprehension.[LNB]"It will not be an easy fixture, especially for us because we are trying to get everything more organised and we are only at the beginning of a process - but I don't think Manchester United will have an easy life tomorrow.[LNB]"I see the players in training every day and I'm confident we can do something.[LNB]"Manchester United are a good team and they have top players. Not only Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez but also Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Scholes, who I think becomes younger every year.[LNB]"They are the best players, for the moment, in England.[LNB]"But I believe in football anything can happen. In football you need to think like this. I think we showed in the past that anything can happen.[LNB]"One thing I don't want is for us to give up before the game, nor in the game."
