West Ham kicked off their pre-season schedule with a hard-fought 1-2 victory over Peterborough United on Wednesday evening. Goals from Carlton Cole and Anthony Edgar were enough to see off a spirited Posh side. New manager Avram Grant was delighted with what he saw from no less than 24 players, including Kieron Dyer, Luis Boa-Morte and Herita Ilunga. Almost all of the players impressed their new manager with German new-boy Thomas Hitzlsperger in particular, impressing in a midfield role.  Speaking of his new signing Grant said, “He is a good player. “I said when I started here that we want good professional players that know how to play good football that can help our young talented players.  You saw this tonight.  Thomas did very well.”
