Green cements No1 spot

West Ham's Rob Green looks certain to have secured his World Cup starting role as England's No1 after a confident display against a strong Mexican side. Green played the first half of England’s penultimate World Cup warm-up game that saw him line up against West Ham team-mate Guille Franco. Some typically shaky defending from England gave Arsenal striker Carlos Vela two opportunites to shot at goal, both were excellently saved by a confident Green. With England 2-0 up and half-time approaching, Green was powerless to stop his Hammers team-mate from notching a memorable goal at Wembley when he stabbed home a loose ball. England play their final warm-up game against Japan on Sunday where Green’s Hammers team-mates Matty Upson and Scott Parker will hope to be given a final opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the final 23 that will go to South Africa in just over a weeks time.
