Grant 'very optimistic' for future

West Ham manager Avram Grant is confident his side can turn their poor start around and insists he is "very optimistic about the future".[LNB] The Hammers entertain Tottenham at Upton Park on Saturday having collected just one point this season to leave them languishing in the basement of the Premier League standings. [LNB]However, Grant's side can take heart from their 2-1 Carling Cup triumph over Sunderland on Tuesday evening, which marked their first away win of the campaign. [LNB]Grant insists his side deserve to be higher in the table following encouraging displays against Bolton and Chelsea, and feels confident ahead of Saturday's London derby. [LNB]"I am very optimistic about the future of this club. We know what we are doing, we have a vision about this club and I am optimistic about it," Grant told the East London Advertiser. [LNB]"If you have seen our games, this is not the place for us (bottom of the table), but we need to take points. We have a long, long season. I think it will be very hard, but it will be possible. But it is very frustrating when we play so well but don't take three points.[LNB]"After so many games from which we took zero points and we have played well, except in the first game - we played well against Bolton, we played well against Chelsea - it is good for the players to see that if we continue to do the right things, we can get results."[LNB]New-boys Victor Obinna and Frederic Piquionne have recently added some welcome firepower to the Hammers forward-line, with both strikers opening their scoring accounts on Tuesday. [LNB]And Grant has backed the pair and their teammates to emulate their impressive showing on Wearside against the injury-ravaged Spurs. [LNB]"They worked very hard, they moved very well and they played well together - but all the team behind them played well," he said.[LNB]"We passed the ball very well in the midfield so it was easier for them to find space to score two fantastic goals.[LNB]"We want to play always with the same style, this is our target. If you saw our last games, except the first one against Aston Villa, we have been playing the same all the time."
