Grant rues poor defending

West Ham boss Avram Grant was left to bemoan poor defending at set plays after his side missed out on the Carling Cup final at Wembley. The Hammers were in control of the tie when a Carlton Cole goal meant they led 3-1 on aggregate in the second leg of the semi-final at St Andrew's. But goals from Lee Bowyer and Roger Johnson forced the game into extra-time before life-long City fan Craig Gardner scored the winner. Grant said: "I felt we played well first half, scored one goal and could have scored more than one. In the second half Birmingham scored from two corners. We didn't deal with those very well. I am disappointed. "I am not happy that we are not in the final. We did well in the competition, won a lot of games, and even the first half here was good. "But unfortunately we are not at Wembley."
