Etherington eyes Ashton swoop

Matthew Etherington believes West Ham forward Dean Ashton would be an ideal summer signing for Stoke boss Tony Pulis. The Hammers striker, who has been badly hit by injuries in recent years, has been linked with a switch to the Britannia Stadium. And winger Etherington, who played alongside the 25-year-old during his time at Upton Park, feels a move to the Potters would lift all parties. James Beattie was a revelation up front for Stoke following his January arrival from Sheffield United, with Etherington believing Ashton could have a similar impact. "Dean will score goals for us, there's no shadow of doubt about that," he told the Stoke Sentinel. Asset "Give him the right service and he'll pop them in like James Beattie. "He'll be a great asset if we can get him. There's not only the goals, but also a great ability as well. "If we can get him fully fit, which I'm sure we can, then he's a top, top player. He must be to have played for his country. "His injury has set him back, but I really do believe he can be a great asset if we do sign him."
