Double swoop for Hammers

Avram Grant has continued his rebuilding programme at West Ham with the capture of French striker Frederic Piquionne as well as Mexico winger Pablo Barrera. Piquionne, 31, who spent last season playing for the new Hammers boss while on loan at Portsmouth, has joined for an undisclosed fee from Lyon on a three-year deal. Barrera, meanwhile, arrived earlier in a £4million deal from Pumas, after the 23-year-old received his work permit on Thursday. Following the capture of German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger from Lazio on a free transfer, Grant has been keen to add more quality to a squad which only just escaped relegation last season. Israel international Tal Ben-Haim, whom Grant also worked with at Portsmouth, is reported to be close to completing a switch to Upton Park, as the club reported "further major additions are expected within the next 72 hours."
