Clarke - Takeover talk is not a distraction

West Ham United are not being hampered by continued talk of a takeover, according to assistant manager Steve Clarke.

The Hammers remain rooted in the relegation zone after Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers extended their current run of poor form.

Robert Green's second half mistake gifted fellow strugglers Bolton three valuable points at the Reebok Stadium.

The England goalkeeper inexplicably spilt Tamir Cohen's innocuous header and Ivan Klasnic pounced to score the game's decisive goal with 13 minutes left.

But despite claims that off-pitch matters are filtering down into the dressing room, Clarke insists that is not the case.

"No, and I've had this question a couple of times," he said. "Obviously we are aware it's going on in the background, but there is nothing we can do about it.

"Inside the dressing room it's not spoken about. We don't mention it and I've not heard one player speak about it.

"Our business is to work hard through the week in training to try to get a winning team on the pitch.

"Unfortunately we are not doing that at the moment but that's all we are concentrating on - where the next win is coming from."
