West Ham striker Andy Carroll has admitted he would be devastated to miss out on a spot in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad - despite playing just 18 minutes of football so far this season.
The 25-year-old striker has been sidelined with a troublesome foot injury and made his long-awaited comeback as a substitute in West Ham's vital 2-0 win at Cardiff last weekend which took the Hammers out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone.
Carroll has scored two England goals in his nine caps but has not featured for Hodgson's side since the 5-0 win over San Marino in a World Cup qualifier in October 2012.
But the former Newcastle and Liverpool forward, who became West Ham's record signing last summer following a successful loan spell at Upton Park, wants to be in with a chance of making it to Brazil.
"Of course the World Cup is massive and everybody wants to be in it," he said.
"I've just got to perform well here to get into the squad and it's in my head that there is a chance for me to go. I'd be devastated if I missed out to be honest.
"It was great to be away at the Euros (in 2012), playing with the best players in Europe. Now I've got to work hard and I'll have a chance to play with the best in the world. That's a great incentive for me to do as well as I possibly can for West Ham."
