The man who took possibly the most iconic football photo of all time is British photographer John Varley.[LNB]The Doncaster-born Leeds United fan was at his second World Cup and was one of a handful of photographers choosing to shoot in colour at that time.[LNB] Bobby Moore and Pele swop shirts after the game[LNB]Now 17 years retired, Varley was 35 at the World Cup in Mexico but he almost didn't make it there after his car broke down during the Daily Mirror pre-World Cup rally in South America. Stranded far from the finals, he had to hitch-hike his way to the opening game. But once he was there, his eye for a picture gave him the perfect image.[LNB]At the final whistle, John loitered around Bobby Moore, hoping that Pele would approach after their brilliant duel. [LNB]Of course, he did and John captured the now world-famous image while other photographers were looking on in awe. Such was its impact that the great Brazilian signed one for him some years later.[LNB] England v Brazil: Hail the great class of 1970 - Moore, Pele, Banks, Charlton, Jairzinho...
