West Ham midfielder Valon Behrami has expressed his delight at overcoming his injury nightmare. The popular Switzerland international has been out for six months with a knee ligament injury but returned to action for the Hammers' reserves on Tuesday night. The 24-year-old played an hour in a 6-0 win over Birmingham, which saw a hat-trick from young striker Zavon Hines while new striker Alessandri Diamnati scored two free-kicks. Behrami admits it has been a testing time recovering from injury and is thrilled to be back. "I've had a very hard six months," he told the club's official website. "Every day I had to work on my rehabilitation so it was a great feeling for me to play in this game. "It was target for me over the last six months just to arrive here and be fit, and just to enjoy what I'm doing. It was fantastic for me. "This, for me, is a great day. I hope this day never returns again and I never have a difficult situation again like the last six months." Behrami suffered the injury against Manchester City on 1st March and has put his hand up for a first-team return. Manager Gianfranco Zola will now assess Behrami's fitness and decide if he will be included in the squad for Saturday's visit to Wigan. "I don't know when I will return but I am ready now," Behrami added. "I am ready when mister (Zola) needs me. "I am not scared about my injury. I can only say I am ready and then it is a decision for the technical staff."
