Avram Grant still in charge as Martin Jol joins hunt to become West Ham's next boss

Avram Grant was clinging to his West Ham job as he led out his team last night despite widespread belief that the club were lining up a replacement manager, with both Martin O'Neill and Martin Jol linked with the post in the preceding 24 hours. [LNB]Grant, whose bottom side lost to Arsenal in yesterday's late game, has been the subject of intense speculation on his future. [LNB]Yesterday began with media reports that former Aston Villa manager O'Neill had accepted an invitation to take over. [LNB] Time for goodbyes? Avram is hanging on to his job... but for how much longer? [LNB]Later it was former Spurs and Ajax boss Jol who became the name in the frame, although West Ham sources continued to insist no definitive announcement was expected. [LNB]Hammers co-owner David Gold did nothing to dispel rumours about the 55-year-old Israeli's imminent departure when he refused to confirm or deny that yesterday's game at Upton Park would be Grant's last in charge. [LNB]'I'm not confirming anything,' said Gold. 'Avram just has to get on with his job. We really must stop talking about him because it distracts from that aim.'
