West Bromwich boss Roberto Di Matteo to check if Paul Scharner is fit to face Spurs

[LNB]Battle: Ex-Wigan player Scharner is hoping to play[LNB]New West Bromwich Albion signing Paul Scharner will try to convince boss Roberto Di Matteo he is fit enough to be considered for the weekend Barclays Premier League clash with Tottenham.[LNB]Scharner will turn out for the reserves against Bolton at Albion's training ground on Tuesday afternoon - his first match since appearing for Wigan against Chelsea on May 9.[LNB]The 30-year-old has maintained his fitness levels since becoming a free agent in the summer by working with a personal trainer for the past two months.[LNB]But Di Matteo needs to see he has sufficient match sharpness for the home meeting with Harry Redknapp's side.[LNB]The Baggies boss said: 'Paul is in good shape physically but we have to see how his match fitness is.[LNB]'Tomorrow we have a reserve game and we will give him some time on the pitch.'[LNB]Di Matteo admitted he has recruited Scharner primarily to operate in midfield even though he can also play at centre-half.[LNB]He said: 'I said to him I was recruiting him as a midfielder.
