West Bromwich 1 Wolves 1: Derby is marred as fans throw seats and a smoke bomb

  Carlos Vela's injury-time equaliserwas overshadowed by the throwing of a smoke bomb as the first BlackCountry derby in the Premier League served up a dramatic finale on thepitch and an unsavoury one off it. [LNB]The Mexican, on loan from Arsenal,reacted quickly after Wayne Hennessey spilled a shot from the edge ofthe area to put a smile on the face of West Bromwich Albion manager RoyHodgson. We believe it was smuggled intothe ground inside a cuddly toy.'[LNB] It is the second time this season aWest Midlands derby has been marred by such an incident following the Birmingham-Aston Villa Carling Cup quarter-final in December, which wasaccompanied by a pitch invasion.[LNB] For he's a jolly good Vela: the West Brom loanee (second left) struck in injury time [LNB] [LNB] It was an unwanted ending to asurprisingly good game which Wolves boss Mick McCarthy had described asthe clubs' most important in recent history with both near the foot ofthe table. [LNB]  Hodgson found it difficult not tosmile during his post-match media briefing, although he felt theequaliser, which came after James Morrison's drive flew through severalsets of legs and the Wolves keeper fumbled, was the least his sidedeserved.[LNB] 'I thought we deserved better,' he said. 'The performance was good and we laid siege to Wolves' goal for long periods.' [LNB]Vela, 21, has a reputation as a finisher and Hodgson was right in his assertion that he 'has seen them missed'. 'Jamie is a very good footballer technically. It was a good strike.' [LNB]But, when Hennessey failed to hold Morrison's shot, Vela did the rest, to Hodgson's relief.
