West Brom need 45 points to be safe, warns Paul Scharner
Paul Scharner admits West Brom may need 45 points to guarantee Barclays Premier League survival. [LNB]The midfielder is desperate to avoid the last-day drama of four years ago when he scored to help Wigan stay up and in the process condemned Sheffield United to relegation.[LNB] Albion moved on to the 36-point mark with Saturday's 2-1 home success over Liverpool and they are now 13th in the table. But Scharner, who moved from the Latics to West Brom last summer, believes they may need three more wins to secure a second successive campaign of top-flight football. [LNB] Edging clear: West Brom beat Liverpool at the weekend to move up to 13th spot[LNB]Scharner said: 'I felt going into Saturday's game that we needed three or four wins. We got one of them against Liverpool - but we can't rest (on our laurels) now. We have to keep focused on our job and get the points we need to survive. We have still a very tough programme in front of us.'[LNB] Scharner added: 'It looks like you will need definitely more than 40 points and, to be on the safe side, let's say three more wins from here. [LNB]'From my own experiences with Wigan a few years ago, I don't want it to go to the last game. We had to beat Sheffield United away, we had to win to survive. It was a tough game with so much at stake. [LNB]'I don't want to taste that experience again. We want to try and be safe before then.'[LNB] Dignified Hodgson has the last laugh on Liverpool with West Brom winJamie Redknapp's Weekend Watch: Hodgson is a decent, honest, top coachHodgson paid whopping ?7.3m for just six months work as Liverpool bossWest Brom 2 Liverpool 1: Revenge is sweet for jubilant Hodgson [LNB] Explore more:People: Paul Scharner Places: Liverpool
