Youssouf Mulumbu's first goal of the season was not enough to stop Albion falling to a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Albion started the brighter but were pegged back by a controversial penalty in the 25th minute by Emmanuel Adebayor's rebounded spot kick.
Chris Brunt and Simon Cox missed excellent chances before two late goals from Jermaine Defoe and Adebayor earned the win.
