West Bromwich closed in on an instant return to the Barclays Premier League, extending the gap over third-placed Nottingham Forest to eight points - as Swansea boss Paulo Sousa claimed his team were cheated. [LNB]Swansea had slim hopes of automatic promotion before kick-off - as a win would have moved them within six points of Albion - but their dreams were dashed when a controversial, late penalty broke the deadlock. [LNB]West Bromwich manager Roberto Di Matteo said: 'We have now put ourselves in a very good position after working hard all season. Our destiny is in our own hands. It's been a good night. Forest lost ground and it will be difficult for Swansea to break into the top two now.' [LNB]Baggies boss: Roberto di Matteo [LNB]This drab clash was heading for a draw until the game-turningdecision in the 79th minute. Swansea were furious that referee RogerEast awarded the late spot-kick, with substitute Giles Barnes appearingto have dived over Angel Rangel's challenge. Graham Dorrans scored fromthe resulting spot-kick before Ishmael Miller sealed the win. [LNB]Discussing the penalty incident, Sousa said: 'I thought the refereewas going to book him for diving. I've seen it on video with adifferent angle and I'm right. [LNB]'He saw it differently though. We are used to this now and it's frustrating as I've spoken about referees this season. [LNB]'We started well and, of course, it changed the balance of the game.We have some moments in games when we have the luck and times wehaven't this season.' [LNB]This had been billed as the clash between the Championship's topscorers, West Bromwich, against a side with the meanest defence,Swansea. But the visitors showed little ambition before the break asthey looked to ditch their free- scoring approach.[LNB] It meant chances were at a premium, only for Di Matteo to suddenlygo for broke late on and introduce Barnes and Miller as the game openedup. Within moments of their arrival, the pair combined and ex-Derbywinger Barnes crashed to the floor under Rangel's challenge.[LNB] Dorrans kept his cool amid a flurry of protests and a wall ofnoise. As Swansea piled forward, Miller rubbed salt into the woundswhen he collected Dorrans' pass before rounding Dorus de Vries to sealthe win in the 89th minute. [LNB]Di Matteo had a contrasting view to his opposite number regardingthe spot-kick controversy, and added: 'I thought it was a clearpenalty. Giles put ball past defender and he went down over his leg.[LNB] 'Swansea don't concede many goals but they don't score many. Theyare not adventurous and don't commit many players forward. So it wasimportant for us to get something out of the game and thankfully we gotthe win.'[LNB] Barnsley 2 Nottingham Forest 1: Daniel Bogdanovic at the double as away day misery continues for Billy Davies' side Crystal Palace 0 Leicester 1: Bruno Berner strike clips Eagles' wings after Claude Davis sees red for strugglers [LNB]
