Left-back joins from neighbours Nicky Shorey has become Albion’s fifth summer signing after joining from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.  The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract, plus a further year in the club’s favour. The former Reading man joined the Villains two years ago for a fee of £4 million.  However, he fell out of favour at Villa Park with former boss Martin O’Neill.  As a result, Shorey spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest before joining Fulham on loan until the end of the season.    Roberto Di Matteo admitted he was a long admirer of the left-back and welcomed him to The Hawthorns. "I'm delighted to welcome Nicky to the club," said the Italian. "He's an experienced, solid, reliable left-back who likes to get forward and get involved. "I also like the fact he's English and knows what the Premier League is all about. "He's a player I've liked for some time. "I've very much signed Nicky to compete for the left-back position and I have some good options down that flank as Marek can also play further forward. "Nicky's arrival will not only increase competition but also means we will have options should we suffer injuries or suspensions." Shorey has earned two England caps to date featuring in friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
