Shocking start disappoints Di Matteo

Boss bemoans defensive errors An angry Roberto Di Matteo blasted the Baggies start yesterday at Loftus Road which saw them 2-0 down inside the first twenty minutes.  In Neil Warnock’s first game in charge ex-loan striker Jay Simpson and Matthew Connolly gave the former Crystal Palace boss a dream start. Chris Brunt scored his tenth goal of the season to give Albion a lifeline before half time but, as the Baggies pushed forward for an equaliser, Akos Buzsaky ensured three points with Rangers’ third in the 67th minute. "We started really badly," said the disappointed Italian. "If you give away two goals in the first 20 minutes it becomes very difficult to win a game. "We said before the game to keep it nice and tight in the first 20 minutes to give us confidence. "But we did exactly the opposite. "It's a team performance. "Yes, we made individual mistakes, but there are 11 players on the pitch. "The first two goals were terrible to give away. "You can't allow that against any team." After the defeat, which saw Albion slip down to third, Di Matteo urged an immediate response from his troops against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night (KO 19.45). We need to pick ourselves up psychologically and keep believing in what we do," he continued. "And we can't keep giving away sloppy goals. "One week the results go for you, the next they don't. "But it's more about us than the opposition."
