Striker ready to commit future

Shane Long hopes to open contract negotiations over a new deal to extend his stay at The Hawthorns.

The striker has been linked to moves away from the Baggies with Sevilla and Lazio reportedly tracking the Republic of Ireland international.

Long still has a year left on his contract, plus a year in the club’s favour, after his £4m switch from Reading at the start of last season.

But the striker is now ready to commit his future to Albion after being impressed by head coach Steve Clarke.

“I am happy here,” he said. “I like playing for the manager here.

“He has been really good and I’m learning a lot every week, the lads are good and my family are very happy here so I’m not looking to move on.

“I’m just looking at this season and getting a few more goals before the summer, then we can go from there.”
