Roy: We need another three points

Boss sets target after Sunderland victory Roy Hodgson believes Albion need three more points in their remaining six games after taking a giant step towards safety by beating Sunderland 3-2 at The Stadium of Light. Goals from Peter Odemwingie, Youssouf Mulumbu and Paul Scharner saw Albion twice come from behind to record their fourth victory on the road this season. The victory moved Albion up to 10th in the Premier League and within touching distance of securing top-flight football next season. "I think we need 42 points, so 39 is a damn sight closer than 32, that's for sure," said the head coach. "On the other hand, there won't be bottles of Champagne being uncorked until the 42-point mark is reached. "Even then, we may not be mathematically safe. "But, with so many teams involved in the relegation battle, the teams at the bottom are going to have to play unbelievably well to get 11 points from their remaining six games. "That's the type of form that would win you the Barclays Premier League, let alone keep you in it! "If we can get to 42 points, we'll be well on the way. "With six games to play, this team doesn't like to lose. "It's not a team that takes its foot off the pedal at anytime, so who knows, we might get even more than 42 points. "That's what we're going for." Hodgson, who still remains unbeaten during his reign at The Hawthorns, again reserved praise for Albion’s travelling hoards as more than 2,800 Baggies’ fans made the long trip north to Wearside. The former Fulham and Liverpool manager now hopes to reward Albion’s loyal fans by guaranteeing top flight football as soon as possible. "There have been some very enjoyable moments for me since i joined the club," said Hodgson. "And one of the things I really enjoy is the enormous support we get. "Even today, our travelling fans made a very noble effort at silencing almost 40,000 Sunderland fans. "Their joy and their backing of the club - because they back the club through thick and thin - would make it fantastic if we stop up this year. "It would be a nice reward for them. "I'm sure they'll feel they have played their part in helping us stay up if we now succeed in doing so." Do Albion need 42 points to keep us up? Have your say on Baggies Banter here.
