Roy reveals his delight

Boss pleased to bag vital victory Roy Hodgson revealed his delight at watching his Albion side beat his former club Liverpool. Two Chris Brunt penalties were enough to give Hodgson a victory in his first attempt against his former side, despite Martin Skertel’s header. Captain Brunt twice kept his cool to fire past Pepe Reina and send Albion up to the dizzy heights of twelfth.   "I'm more than satisfied," said Hodgson. "I'm really happy with the performance. "I thought, apart from maybe the first ten or 15 minutes where we perhaps didn't start as well as some of the other games and some credit must go to Liverpool, we really took the game to the opposition and played some really good football. "When we went a goal down, I thought it was against the run of play and it is a great achievement for the players to put that behind them and come out and score two goals. "I thought they were as clear penalties as you are ever likely to see. "If you don't get penalties for that, penalties might not as well exist. "The penalties were the result of quite a lot of pressure we were able to exert on the Liverpool defence. "Both were won by Peter thanks to some excellent pieces of work." Hodgson, who recorded his first home win in charge of Albion, played down any thoughts of personal revenge in the build-up to the game and insisted the victory meant more for the club than himself. "I made a lot of friends at Liverpool, who I have a lot of time and respect for," he continued. "Many of the coaching staff were people who worked very loyally for me. "So I don't take any particular pleasure at all in that. "The pleasure I do take is in beating Liverpool Football Club because it's not something West Brom do very often - and today we did it and deserved to do it. "Arguably, we were the better team today and I know the coaching staff were of that opinion. "Taking a scalp like Liverpool's when you're battling against relegation is a red letter day for this club."
