Reidy wants a game

Versatile man looking for extended first-team action Steven Reid hopes to use Gonzalo Jara’s absence through suspension to his advantage. The former Republic of Ireland international has yet to make a first team league start this season, but stared in the 2-1 defeat against Blackpool after coming off the bench. Reid hopes he’s now done enough to force his way into Roberto Di Matteo’s first-team XI, but has no complaints about his lack of game-time this season after a fantastic start by the team. "I am not in the team regularly at the moment but I'm not one to sulk and kick up a fuss," said Reid. "I've got a role at the club as a senior player and I will back the team. "I couldn't be happier with the results the team are getting and I've just got to be right mentally and physically for the bits and pieces that I am getting. "I have played central midfield for most of this season so that is probably my preferred position. "I had a run-out at centre-half at Leicester and a few minutes on Monday so there will be a few decisions for the head coach to make. "Gonzalo is suspended but we will leave that with the head coach and hopefully I might get a few games under my belt now." He added: "It's been an outstanding start and if we can continue the way we're playing at the moment I'd like to think we'll be fine this season. "The aim is still to get to 40 points as quickly as possible and then we'll see where we are. "There's no reason why we can't get a result on Sunday. "There are little bits and pieces coming out of City at the moment but if you look at their squad it's outstanding. "But we showed in the Carling Cup game that we're more than capable of competing because they had a few big hitters on duty that night."
