Striker relieved to end difficult week with Wolves goal

Peter Odemwingie was pleased to see smiles on the faces of fans yesterday after scoring Albion’s second goal in a 2-0 victory against rivals Wolves.

The Nigerian international was singled out for criticism after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in January.

But, after coming on a sub yesterday, Odemwingie secured the bragging rights for the Baggies and turned a forgettable week in to an unforgettable one.

"I had to take in stuff that I didn't really like to here last week from hear and there but this situation has also taught me that sometimes you have to let things pass, just concentrate on your work and keep going,” he said.

"It was nice to score with my first scoring chance.

"I could feel the importance of this game from the first day I arrived back from the national team with the way the fans were talking about it.

"I knew it was a big game so when I scored the goal I felt double joy.

"We climbed up the table and it was an important three points and the first home victory is great."
