Odemwingie urges Albion calm

Peter Odemwingie accepts West Brom must become more streetwise if they are to progress in the Barclays Premier League. The Baggies avoided a third straight defeat when they battled to a 2-2 draw at bottom club West Ham. However, manager Roberto Di Matteo felt his team, generally impressive on their return to the top flight, could have taken all three points but for a lapse in concentration just before half-time. Odemwingie, back from an ankle injury, had put the visitors in front from the penalty spot only for midfielder Scott Parker to smash home a stunning 25-yard strike as West Brom were punished for not retaining possession just before the break. Indeed, the hosts then went ahead from Frederic Piquionne's penalty but Pablo Ibanez headed in an equaliser to earn the visitors a deserved share of the spoils. Odemwingie told Albion Player: "We had to slow down the game at the end of the first half but we were playing good football and enjoying it without too much anxiety. In those last minutes we should have calmed the game down but it was a little mistake because we did not stay compact, we were too far from each other and that is why we conceded a goal. But in the second half, we have been very strong this year and are showing character which is a good quality we have in the team."
